A certificate people pawn gold on shouldn't depend on retyping.
A testing centre takes in jewellery, measures its purity on an X-ray fluorescence machine and issues a certificate that customers rely on to buy, sell or pawn. On paper that means receipt books, readings copied by hand off the machine's screen, and certificates typed up afterwards.
